A new Bible for a new U.S. president


Bishop Gregory Palmer, president of the United Methodist Council of Bishops, signs a Holy Bible to be presented to the next president of the United States. Palmer signed the Bible on Nov. 3, one day before voters were to choose between John McCain and Barack Obama. The bishops have a long tradition of presenting the country's newly elected president with a Bible signed by the denomination's bishops.  More

United Methodists receive licenses for work in Cuba


NEW YORK (UMNS)—After weeks of efforts, the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries has been granted two licenses from the U.S. government for relief work in hurricane-ravaged Cuba. The new licenses will allow the United Methodist Committee on Relief to provide both short- and long-term assistance to Cubans affected by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in September. More.
